Cycle 6 Analysis
On day 15 of this cycle, I got married! Then a couple days later we left for our honeymoon – 3 weeks backpacking through Germany. There was a lot of stress leading up to that trip and I wasn’t always able to be good about temping on the trip, so there is some data missing from my chart.
I monitored my cervical fluid every day, and as newlyweds we took some risks. During the longest stretch of missing temps, we were staying in a hostel in Munich. We couldn’t do anything of course. My libido suggested that ovulation could be near, but my cervical mucus was spotty at best. Eventually we moved on to a new town and the next morning, I had an elevated temp and we realized we had taken a huge risk. My temps stayed elevated and it took a toll on my husband. We still managed to enjoyed the rest of our trip, although I ended up getting a bad cold.
Once again, I was bewildered by my body’s choice of when to ovulate. Sure, I was in amazing shape by the end of this backpacking trip, but we were traveling somewhere new every few days and living on nothing but bread, cheese, processed meat, and ice cream. Not exactly healthy or stress free.
After 9 days of torture, my period came. Although we were so relieved to not be pregnant, this was emotionally hard for me. We took a big risk, and I felt like I should have gotten pregnant from that risk. What saved me was likely the lack of fertile mucus. And even if it were there and my fertility were perfect, there’s no guarantee that I would get pregnant. But here I was, over a year out from going off the pill, and my fertility was still missing. I should have gotten pregnant and I didn’t. And that feeling of helplessness, like I couldn’t do this one thing my body is designed to do, was really, really hard on me.
Take away from this cycle: any sex we had before cycle day 29 would not be considered safe if you are trying to avoid pregnancy.
