Well, day one. First of two days on the smoothie fast. It went pretty well, although I’m already excited to eat real food with flavor. I was very tempted by the tortilla with cheese, salami, and curry powder that my fiance made (he promises to be nicer when I’m on solid food), but I resisted and drank my apple-pear-lettuce smoothie. It looks like this:
I was hungry most of the day. This was actually nice after all the finals-binging this past week. Just kept drinking my smoothies. I couldn’t get blended smoothly enough, so they had this feeling like they needed to be chewed. I was also cold all day, so adding detox tea into the mix helped a lot! Other than that, I didn’t do much in particular. Did go grocery shopping, though! Spent $70 on food and $30 on fancy spices from the fancy spice store (my first trip to Penzey’s – it was awesome!). We actually got a fair amount of food. What you see below is what we bought (not even all of it, since some is cut out of the picture), but it doesn’t include all the frozen and fresh vegetables already in the refrigerator (and freezer). A lot of it is organic, too!
Wasn’t a perfectly successful trip. We had to get canned adzuki beans, but they were organic, no salt added, and in a BPA free can. They will do until we can find dried beans. And we didn’t get as many berries as I wanted because they were EXPENSIVE. I did find sprouted mung beans, though! That was quite the exciting find. Now I don’t have to worry about doing that today. Just boil them in water for 5 minutes when I need them. I also decided not to make a vegetable broth today, as it won’t add enough to the soups I’m making to be worth the effort and vegetables. I’ll just use water.
My eczema is doing pretty well. It has been healing since the weather finally warmed up. It is still in my elbow creases, though, and my legs need a lot of work. And my arms are still in the process of healing, but they are a lot better. Hopefully it will just get better through this process. And maybe it will clear of the acne that has shown up since I went off the pill (not bad, but a nuisance).
My energy has been neutral. Not very tired, other than that I got up fairly early. Don’t have a ton of energy either, though.
Detox and Exercise
Drank a cup of Yogi Detox Tea. Was going to oil pull, but apparently my dad doesn’t have any normal oils. Bizarre. Bought olive oil and will start tomorrow. Walked to and from the grocery store, but no formal exercise.
1 smoothie batch made with 1 apple, 2 pears, 4 lettuce leaves, and about 1.5 cups water.
2 cups of Winter Green Smoothie (used blueberries instead of cranberries, spinach instead of collard greens, no parsley) – This looked, tasted, and felt much better than the first one. It was actually green. I didn’t realize how important such a large quantity of leaves was! Still was bored with it by the end of the day, though.
I was really surprised by how little I ended up consuming. I also learned smoothies are a lot of work. Prepare in large batches and refrigerate. Or just go eat real food like a normal person (not that real food isn’t work, but it’s probably more rewarding).
